MAD 15: Contemporary Health Facilities

.

by Estudio Entresitio & Rafael de La-Hoz and more.

1. Usera Health Center (2010) by estudio_entresitio.  A very contemporary piece of architecture, like a sculpture, the  building itself is a series of abstract volumes with clean lines and white, transparent spaces.  Openings are introduced from above capturing the natural light directly into interior glass patios,  while maintaining the exterior sculptural volumetric composition. Minimalistic and limpid spaces for a clean new and modern health system. We have included another wonderful project by estudio_entresitio (Casa del Lector – Readers Home) in our MAD AT04 River Park Tour.

2. King Juan Carlos University Hospital (2011) by Rafael de La-Hoz in in Mostoles, in the outskirts of Madrid. A top of the line public hospital, managed by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with Quiron Hospitals from the private sector. This type of semipublic hospitals are becoming a reference in the Community of Madrid Health System. Read More

The Rey Juan Carlos Hospital is located to the north of the Madrid town of Móstoles, bordered by the Extremadura highway, a university and the back street of a low-density residential area. The area of the whole complex is about 95,000 square meters, is composed of several mayor elements: a large prismatic horizontal lower volume that hosts the sanitary areas with two ovoid crown towers, visible from the highway. This are the hospitalisation rooms that with its superior elevated position and an interesting abstract design of their facades, which employees translucent pieces of curved modulated glass, that have become landmarks easily identified from the highway which runs by it, and gives access to the complex from distant parts of the whole city. A clean and light architectural composition in alignment with the ideals in health systems, of minimal white and clean spaces that invites to light and quiet well being, and contemplation. A singular, very different project for its typology, however now a building reference not only in the Spanish Health Sector, but also at an international level.
